Consecutive matching striations (CMS) is a mathematical model that can be used to describe the strength of the correspondence being observed between two striated toolmark patterns. CMS does represent the “quality and quantity” factors in the AFTE Theory of Identification whether numbers are applied or not with respect to a final opinion. This course will discuss the general concept of CMS and how it has been studied to determine a reliable and valid conservative numerical criterion that can be applied in casework.
